The Madras Madness – Part 2:The road always taken

There are places that bring joy to a few.

There are places that have great history to its name.

There are places that when visited may fulfill what you desire for.

And there is a place, a place that is famous for something which truly i have never known nor had liked to know why. Okay, so it all began like this. Right after moving out of my college hostel in the 3rd year of my undergrad, I along with few of my friends rented a house at Chrompet. Days used to be great since now we didn't have any restriction. The city was open to us and we could go anywhere and anytime as we wanted. There were days where we had just hoped onto any city bus and traveled the whole day with no idea in mind about where we heading to. Get down at point were the bus stopped, eat whatever we got there and talk with whomever we met on the way. It was more like a travelogue but with no pre-plans and motive in mind.

So it happened to be one such boring day at college that we all got into some kind of trouble. Each of us has ended up with a different problem and the whole day got pissed off. Returning back to room, we desperately were in need of some relaxation.  And so we came up with a plan. It was to board the first bus that we find at the bus stop and go where it takes us to. The plan was filed and we headed towards the stop. A bus came in and it was route E18 heading to "High Court". Hopping on to it we started chit chatting about everything except what happened at college, which needs a special mention here. As it was dusk and also a weekday, mad rush of vehicle on the road could be easily experienced. There were least chance of the traffic getting cleared. The vehicles were all moving inch by inch as if they were all queued up at a theater trying to get the first day first show ticket of a Rajnikanth's movie. The clock was ticking but we had almost lost track of the time with the chat. Finally when we looked out the bus had cleared out of the traffic and was almost near Teynampettai.

Our stomach were rumbling and we had decided its better to get down somewhere near Spence Plaza and have food. Getting down we had to search for a hotel. Since we had rarely visited Royapettah and its surroundings, locating a good one was kind of challenging. Finally we ended up finding one on the main road itself. It was a place called "Thulasi" and i wonder if it is still there. It was pure vegetarian restaurant. The food was really good and the very moment the place found an entry in our heart's.

Later point of time we made it a habit of going from Chrompet till Royapettah just to have our dinner. And also there were days when i used to just take a ride till Anna Salai and come back. It may sound very crazy but it helped me out during most of the time when i was feeling very low. There were days which i never wish to see again. And during all those days, this particular road gave me some kind of energy to stand up against those. Naturally i made it a habit of visiting it now and then.

The Madras Madness - Part 1:The bonding

So as I had mentioned in my previous post  you will be witnessing quite a number of interesting events under the same banner "The Madras Madness" in the days to follow.

The "bonding" with the city had been a long running question in my mind. Even now i used to think how come a kid born in Coimbatore and had never known the capital city till the age of 5 got attached and attracted towards it ? Hmmm, there could be a variety of reasons. It could have either been the Marina beach or the amusement parks or the 3 mode of transport that run parallely at Thirisulam or was it my aunt's house that i visit every time when i come here. So there is no particular reason for the fascination.

As days passed on, I had almost reached the end of my schooling. I was very much determined and firm in my decision to do my college here. Whenever anyone approached me asking about my future plan, i used to blankly say that "I wanted to study in Chennai". Luckily I found a college here and from then it had been 6 years now that I got permanently settled here. In these 6 years there were a lot of interesting stuffs that i found here. Initially even I found it little hard to get adjusted, but as days passed on everything felt like it was under control.

The Madras Madness

Madras....Madras....Madras !!!

One word, thousand references to it.

"The land of love" as fondly called by all. Madras, the gateway to anyone who is entering it with a ray of hope for survival. The city has also always stood up to its name.

There have been a lot of articles, discussions, movies, post, songs about this beautiful city, still I prefer to portray it with my own version. The version that holds a special space in my mind with a variety of images and memories of mine experienced in the last 6 years here. Travelling is my passion and being traveled the length and breadth of the country there has been no place as this that i feel so rejuvenated when I step in. And so in the forthcoming post of "The Madras Madness" you are gone witness some of the beautiful memories and experience of mine that this city has given me.

P.S I prefer calling it as Madras rather than Chennai.

Note: I do know that not many had a wonderful experience here and naturally my posts won't interest you.

First Super Jumbo lands in Delhi

The first superjumbo Airbus A-380 plane landed here Friday from Singapore with Singapore Airlines becoming the only global carrier to launch commercial flights of the 'big birds' to India.

The landing of the long-haul, wide-body and fully double-decker aircraft that can carry a total of 471 passengers, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport was preceded by a thunder storm and high-velocity winds that led to the diversion of 21 flights to nearby airports.

On landing, the superjumbo was given a 'water-salute' by the fire brigade at the airport run by the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) which made special arrangements to handle the large number of passengers and their baggage and also special arrangement were to be made with the airside operations too.

The passengers were welcomed by the SIA staff with gifts and bouquets at the exit of the aero bridge.

The SIA's aircraft has a total seating capacity of 471 seats with 399 in economy, 60 in business class and 12 first class suites. This flight from Singapore came full and was also flying back to Singapore with full occupency. Many had just booked to enjoy the experience of flying in a A380.

Immigration and customs departments had made special arrangements for handling such a large number of passengers.

Delhi and Mumbai airports had received DGCA certification and have made preparations to receive the superjumbos in terms of various services required to handle the large number of passengers these planes can carry when they land or take off.

Major Gulf carrier Emirates would become the second airline to deploy these Airbus A-380s from Mumbai in July since Singapore Airlines would commence flying daily from Delhi & Mumbai.

Late January, government had cleared the deck for A-380 operations from Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, lifting a five-year-old ban.

The restriction, which was lifted by the Civil Aviation Ministry after several years of demands by major foreign carriers, was imposed in 2008 as the government had then felt these massive jets would help foreign airlines take away a large chunk of global traffic which could be detrimental to Indian carriers' interests.

So hoping to see lot of  A380 in the Indian sky.

Something for the COMMON MAN !!!

Bangalore will be the new aviation hub of AirAsia India, the CEO of the newest low-cost airline in the domestic skies said as it launched Indian operations on Thursday with a flight from Bangalore to Goa.

Chennai, he said, will remain the corporate base of the airline co-promoted by Tata Sons.

The maiden flight I51320, a brand new Airbus A 320 carrying 186 passengers, took off at 3.10 p.m. from Bangalore's Kempegowda International Airport on a trip lasting an hour and 15 minutes. It will leave Goa's Dabolim International Airport at 4.55 p.m. on the return trip.

The passengers paid an average of Rs. 1,000 each for the trip, 40 per cent of them getting the promotional offer of Rs. 990, according to Mr. Chandilya who briefed the media at the airport ahead of the flight.

The airline has offered the provocatively low fare until October 25. With a fleet of just one aircraft at present, it will launch its second route, a dawn flight from Bangalore to Chennai and back, on July 19.

Two more new A320s would join in the next month or two and some more in the coming months. The plan is to have 30 aircraft, all A-320s, in three years, operate nine destinations by the end of this year and touch 16-18 cities, Mr. Chandilya said.

AirAsia India has taken off with an initial investment of $ 15 million (around Rs. 90 crore), going up to $ 20 million (around Rs. 120 crore), he said.

The parent Malaysian carrier by the same name owns 49 per cent in the Indian arm, Tata Sons 30 per cent and Telestra Tradeplace the rest 21 per cent. AirAsia India got its first plane in March and its flying clearances from the Indian regulator in May.

I hope the brand new red bird brings some change in the life of common man in India. Millions of dream are about to get fulfilled with the new service started by Air Asia India and it is almost gone change the entire Indian Civil Aviation sector. All the no-frill airlines who are ruling the Indian sky are sure to get hurt very badly. So lets look forward to a new beginning.

She moved in, but I had moved out - Part 5

(The link to the previous part is found at the bottom of this post)

Continuing with the story, I saw Kishore rushing towards his seat tensed while Mithun followed him silently with his head dropped down. I knew something went wrong or these idiots would have tried doing something crazy and it ended backfiring upon them. Out of curiosity to know what it was and approaching Mithun at this point would not be a better option, so I moved towards Kishore to know about their act. Mithun mean while silently dropped by at his seat.

Me: Hey dude, wipe the sweat out of your face and relax first and to you (Mithun), come here and sit and try changing your looks as this does not suit you at all. Also do not imagine that i would empathize you unless i have heard the whole story. So Kishore, tell me what actually happened down there?

Kishore: (Taking few deep breaths) Raghav, Mithun is driving me nuts. I do not know what he was planning for or what he actually had in his mind, but whatever it was I was sure that it was not something good, since within minutes he brought the hell out of me.

Me: Sensing his anxiousness, I made a wild guess. Is it something related to Meenakshi ? (And giving a firm stare towards Mithun)

Kishore: Yeah obviously, who else apart from her here is going to make him achieve feats. Do you know what he did today? Having our lunch we were returning back to the class and on the way he saw Meenakshi too returning from lunch. She was heading towards the girls stairs with few of her friends. Looking at her I don't know what hit this stupid's mind and suddenly he started heading towards her.

Me: Whaaaaaaat!!! :-O (With a shocked face I turned towards Mithun)

Kishore: Yeah, he didn't even mind crossing the Ladies staff room, the Principal room and the Director's room on the way. Initially I didn't understand his crazy behavior but later looking at Meenakshi I got the point. Knowing that we would all get into trouble I had to run and catch hold of him before something worse could happen. I could not even get him back from reaching her as you know very well about his uncompromising attitude. So all that i could do was to follow him fearing this would be the last day at this school.

Listening to what Kishore was telling, Mithun was not able to turn his head towards us. He had his head turned in the other direction and sat silently.

Kishore: It was just few feet from her when I caught hold of him once again. He tried very hard to escape from my hold but he could not. To minimize the harm to both of us I had no other option but to give him few blows and that too happened right in front of the office room.

Kishore: After few minutes he regained his sense and by the time he realized what he had done our commotion were more than enough for the office staffs to come and get a hold on us. One of the staff took us straight to the Principal's room. But to our luck she was in a meeting and so we were made to wait outside. But minutes later Bhasha sir(Maths staff) entered the room and saw us waiting there.

Bhasha Sir: What are you two doing here? Are not you supposed to be in the class now?

Office Staff: Sir, these boys were shouting right in front of the office room and were gesturing something towards the girls stairs. I believe they were trying to speak or catch an eye on some girl.

Kishore(Mind voice) : How come this son of a crap knew exactly what we were about to do? However one thing is for sure is that we are going to get blasted off nicely today from all the staffs :'(

Bhasha Sir: Oh hmm!!!(looking at us with a suspicious eye for few minutes and then he spoke) Leave these boys. I know them very well. They wouldn't dare doing it even after knowing the school rule.

Office Staff: Okay sir, as per your words I am leaving them. Looking at us rudely he said "both of you go to your class". Seems this is your lucky day and do not expect Basha sir to turn up every time and help you out.
.
.
. (End of Kishore's narration)

Kishore: But Raghav, I could still not believe Basha sir spoke out those words. I was always of the opinion that he disliked us.

Hearing the complete incident, I was little hesitant as to what to say to Mithun. I knew scolding Mithun at this point would not make any great difference and he is not in the right mind to hear our philosophical speech. The only option that I had now was to change his mind and cheer him up a little.

Me: Hey Mithun, I knew you did not do it intentionally. But just remember one thing running behind a girl may look stupid now but years later when you think about it, you will laugh at your own act. :P Sorry, not just you but all of us. And i am pretty sure that Kishore will never forgive you for today's incident. May be you should treat him heavily to wipe of the record of the incident.

Me: I do not favor you with your act but on a positive note have this incident archived in your memory. Down the lane someday at some point of time you will laugh thinking about it. Believe me dude :)

Hearing my words Kishore gave a furious look towards me but I completely ignored him because Mithun felt relieved and his face started brightening up which is what i was so concerned then. Because i knew this Meenakshi chapter will not run long enough and someday he will realize it on his own.

What followed next is to be continued...

Note : Pardon me if there are any spelling or grammatical mistakes.

She moved in, but I had moved out - Part 4

(The link to the previous part is found at the bottom of this post)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Small Re-Cap of what had happened earlier.

Raghav and Mithun had escaped from their Physical Trainer and they were back at the class narrating the whole incident with their best friend Kishore. And then there was the entry of Miss Elegant (Meenakshi),by which Raghav understood the reason for Mithun's bewitched act. And not long before when he himself was bewitched looking at something, which is to be followed now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I was about to hit Mithun, my eyes fell upon a girl who just vanished off from my sight in a swift, much before i could realize it. I edged upon my seat to have another glance but she was not found. Minutes later she was entering my class.

A thick strand of shiny black silky hair were dancing lively to the breeze. The length was waist level and it was well complimented with those beautiful earring of her. A fair complexion and a stunning eye, just enough to knock any single man out of her way. It was a jaw-dropping moment for each testosterone filled kid in the campus who had just witnessed her beauty. I kept wondering how come I missed her these many days as it was hard to ignore such a beauty.

As she moved towards her desk i wished to see her face clearly once again, but my vision was completely bleached with her stunning beauty. Very often I tried all possible ways to look at her, but most of the time it was Maadhuri who came in the range of my sight and blocked her (Maadhuri was one of my other classmate's who sat next to her). I failed almost every time that i try to see her, in all possible ways. And all of these stupid actions were enough to grab Mithun's attention.

Mithun : Hey buddy, stop looking at my girl. Yes!! I do know that she is remarkably hot and it is hard to resist looking at her, but still she is my girl. So know your limits dude.

Me : What!!! Go to hell. Why should i look at Meenakshi? I wasn't gazing at her. I was just looking, looking out through the window, with the hope of finding a better girl than Meenakshi. (I didn't want anyone to know about the girl whom I was longing to see)

Half the day had already rolled off with staffs giving the same boring lecture, while i was busy trying to make use of every single opportunity to see her again. Hours later it was the lunch break and I started off early from the class just to meet my cousin, who was also studying there. Though senior secondary had a separate block of theirs, few classes of theirs were moved to my block, along with his. And so usually we have a small meet everyday. I used to have my lunch very soon and meet him, just in to have the chat and so the thought of the girl in my class was not hovering in my mind then as i had to hurry up.

As usual I met him that day and we both shared the day's event, laughing and cursing all the staffs who taught us. Time rolled on very fast and he made his way towards the cafeteria, while I bid bye to him and walked back towards my class.

(Note : As mentioned before, boys and girls studying in that school were restricted from talking to each other and one funny thing about that school was that we had separate staircase for boys and girls. Neither were supposed to use the other's)

So taking the boy's stairs, I met Surya Kumar on the way. He was one of my classmate and also a cheerful person by nature. Many a time i had envied him of his character. In this selfish world, there are still some good people and one among them is him.

Surya : Hey Raghav, how come you are coming alone? I always find you surrounded by Mithun and Keshav. So where are those two idiots now?

Me : Kudos to your observation Surya. Well yes we do hang up together, however today I went to meet my cousin and so they headed straight to the cafeteria. I guess they would be on their way back to the class, by now.

As we both were talking and heading towards our class, i saw the same girl who bewitched me this morning, at a distance. Ignoring everything around me I just started walking a bit faster than normal, in an attempt to see her. But luck cheated on me even then. She walked off into the rest room and I had no other option but to just back off. Cursing badly about my luck, I regained my senses and slowly turned back. Surya who was very furious noticing my behavior caught hold of me,

Surya : What did you think were you doing Mr.Hero? What If some staff had seen you? Just think of the consequences you ass hole. Even after knowing the rules of this school, you try to act stupidly.

Me : I was just trying to have a look at her and that is all. I am missing her for the 2nd time today and of course I know what would happen if I get caught. But something is drawing me towards her every time that I am totally unaware off.

Surya : Oh God !!!!!!! you are totally insane. Dude remember, as a friend all that i could do is to warn you and the rest is up to you to decide on your acts. I hope you get my point, deep into your head.

(That was first time that i saw Surya getting furious)

Me : Yes Surya I do understand that you care about your friends and you don't want them to face the harsh consequence. But you do not worry as I will work on it and try not to commit one in the future. And a favor from my end. Can you please not let a word about this to Kishore & Mithun?

Surya : Sure, I will not tell them. You can count on me. And now It is getting late, so why do not we better get back to our class before someone catches us off.

Heading back to the class and chatting with others, I saw Kishore tensed and rushing towards his seat followed by Mithun, with his head down.

So what happened to Mithun and why did Kishore's face portray fear? What had happened when Raghav was not around?

(To be continued.....)
