The Madras Madness – Part 2:The road always taken

There are places that bring joy to a few.

There are places that have great history to its name.

There are places that when visited may fulfill what you desire for.

And there is a place, a place that is famous for something which truly i have never known nor had liked to know why. Okay, so it all began like this. Right after moving out of my college hostel in the 3rd year of my undergrad, I along with few of my friends rented a house at Chrompet. Days used to be great since now we didn't have any restriction. The city was open to us and we could go anywhere and anytime as we wanted. There were days where we had just hoped onto any city bus and traveled the whole day with no idea in mind about where we heading to. Get down at point were the bus stopped, eat whatever we got there and talk with whomever we met on the way. It was more like a travelogue but with no pre-plans and motive in mind.

So it happened to be one such boring day at college that we all got into some kind of trouble. Each of us has ended up with a different problem and the whole day got pissed off. Returning back to room, we desperately were in need of some relaxation.  And so we came up with a plan. It was to board the first bus that we find at the bus stop and go where it takes us to. The plan was filed and we headed towards the stop. A bus came in and it was route E18 heading to "High Court". Hopping on to it we started chit chatting about everything except what happened at college, which needs a special mention here. As it was dusk and also a weekday, mad rush of vehicle on the road could be easily experienced. There were least chance of the traffic getting cleared. The vehicles were all moving inch by inch as if they were all queued up at a theater trying to get the first day first show ticket of a Rajnikanth's movie. The clock was ticking but we had almost lost track of the time with the chat. Finally when we looked out the bus had cleared out of the traffic and was almost near Teynampettai.

Our stomach were rumbling and we had decided its better to get down somewhere near Spence Plaza and have food. Getting down we had to search for a hotel. Since we had rarely visited Royapettah and its surroundings, locating a good one was kind of challenging. Finally we ended up finding one on the main road itself. It was a place called "Thulasi" and i wonder if it is still there. It was pure vegetarian restaurant. The food was really good and the very moment the place found an entry in our heart's.

Later point of time we made it a habit of going from Chrompet till Royapettah just to have our dinner. And also there were days when i used to just take a ride till Anna Salai and come back. It may sound very crazy but it helped me out during most of the time when i was feeling very low. There were days which i never wish to see again. And during all those days, this particular road gave me some kind of energy to stand up against those. Naturally i made it a habit of visiting it now and then.

The Madras Madness - Part 1:The bonding

So as I had mentioned in my previous post  you will be witnessing quite a number of interesting events under the same banner "The Madras Madness" in the days to follow.

The "bonding" with the city had been a long running question in my mind. Even now i used to think how come a kid born in Coimbatore and had never known the capital city till the age of 5 got attached and attracted towards it ? Hmmm, there could be a variety of reasons. It could have either been the Marina beach or the amusement parks or the 3 mode of transport that run parallely at Thirisulam or was it my aunt's house that i visit every time when i come here. So there is no particular reason for the fascination.

As days passed on, I had almost reached the end of my schooling. I was very much determined and firm in my decision to do my college here. Whenever anyone approached me asking about my future plan, i used to blankly say that "I wanted to study in Chennai". Luckily I found a college here and from then it had been 6 years now that I got permanently settled here. In these 6 years there were a lot of interesting stuffs that i found here. Initially even I found it little hard to get adjusted, but as days passed on everything felt like it was under control.
